List BuildersWith so many people talking about how to get traffic to your blog to get leads for your business, I think most people have forgotten about list builders as a source of leads.  There’s no doubt a blog is an excellent long-term solution for traffic and leads, but list builders are an excellent way to get leads right away.  Most of the leads I have added to my list have been a result of list builders.  You may have read my post about safelists where I talked about some of the top tips for using safelists.  Most of those tips also apply to list builders with just a few differences.

Overview of List Builders

Responsiveness

Unlike safelists, most list builders have much more responsive members.  One of the primary reasons for this is that the e-mails from list builders are sent directly to member contact e-mail addresses.  This is different than most safelists which give you the ability to have all the member e-mails sent to a separate e-mail account.  When a member can have your e-mails sent to a separate address a lot of the e-mails you send don’t get read.

E-mails sent to a members main e-mail address are much more likely to be read.  The ideal list builder is one that sends the e-mails as if they are coming directly from you.  The e-mails are not flagged as being from the list builder in either the sender or subject line.  These e-mails have a much higher open rate.

Membership Types

Some list builders are credit based just like safelists.  This is usually only the list builders that have a free membership option.  Even if you are able to use a list builder for free, I still recommend upgrading to a higher membership level.  Upgraded members can e-mail more often and usually to more members with each mailing.  If it’s a credit based safelist, upgraded members will normally get more credits for each e-mail they read.

If it is not a credit based list builder, you need to make sure your e-mails will get sent directly to the main contact e-mail address of the members and that the e-mails will be sent from your e-mail address.  If there is anything that flags your e-mail, it can be filtered into a separate folder in the member’s e-mail system and then deleted at a later time.  This type of information will usually be in the frequently asked questions of the list builder.  If you cannot easily find this information, then send the owner an e-mail to confirm.

E-mail Guidelines for List Builders

Make sure you read my post about safelists.  There are a lot of tips there for how to structure your e-mails for maximum effectiveness.  Most of those rules also can be applied to list builders.  One of the most important tips I give in this post is to have a good offer.  It must provide value and it must be free.  If you don’t have a good offer, check out My Lead System Pro.  They have some excellent lead capture pages with great value adding free offers.

I have had a lot of success with list builders.  Check my recommended resources for a couple of the list builders I recommend.  As I test more out I will post them on my recommendation page.

Happy list building
